Celebrating the Gnostic Mass
Liber XV (the Gnostic Mass) is the central public ritual of Ecclesia Gnostica Catholica, the ecclesiastical arm of Ordo Templi Orientis. Bubastis Oasis holds regular public performances of the Gnostic Mass every month, followed by fellowship and food. We invite you to bring a dish, snack, or beverage to share while you get to know us or explore our library.
If you’re planning to attend Gnostic Mass with us for the first time, we want you to feel comfortable and welcome. Here’s what to expect.
The Gnostic Mass is a participatory eucharistic celebration written by Aleister Crowley in 1913. Although similar in part to Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Masses, this vibrant and dramatic rite stands uniquely apart as it celebrates “the sublimity of the operation of universal forces.â€

The EGC communion host consists of a cake of light* and a small goblet of wine (juice or water optional). Each participant stands in turn before the priestess, consumes the host, then assumes an attitude of resurrection, proclaiming,
“There is no part of me that is not of the gods.â€
Plan to arrive 15 – 30 minutes early. Â Our temple will open to the public 30 minutes prior. Â If you find the door locked, please do not knock. It will disturb the celebration.
Silence your electronic devices.
During the ritual, avoid talking or excessive movement.
We enjoy visitors to our temple. Â The first time you attend one of our Gnostic Masses, you may merely observe the celebration. Â Future visits will require you to participate in the ritual.
We request a small donation of $10.00 from non-members to support our Work. Donations are used to offset the cost of Mass supplies, space rental and utilities. Cash, Debit, and Credit payments welcome.
*Participants with special dietary needs may prepare their own cakes of light and hand them, properly wrapped, to the Deacon before the ritual begins.
