Baptism

Bubastis Oasis in its position as a formal Temple of the EGC is home to the Coiled Splendour Sanctuary which offers a number of ecclesiastical and sacerdotal services for its community.
One of these services is the sacramental rite of Baptism. This ritual varies significantly from its better known Christian cousin because as Thelemites we eschew the Old Æonic doctrine of “Original Sin.” A Baptism performed by the EGC represents a catechumen’s beginning steps within the Gnostic Catholic Church and therefore towards the Light, Life, Love and Liberty that is their birthright in the New Æon. The rite is also analogous to the “Baptism of Wisdom” of one’s physical birth into the phenomenal world.
The baptism affords no rights or responsibilities to the baptized within the Church, but each celebrant of this rite is encouraged to study the tenets of the Creed of the Gnostic Catholic Church so that, in due time, they may join it through the sacrament of Confirmation. Additionally, those members of the EGC who sponsor the catechumen pledge to defend and instruct the baptized so that they may be able to know and perform their Will and thus rejoice in the Will of that which they deem most holy.
